Let’s Make a Mask!

Yes!  It’s almost Halloween and I for one am super excited!  Mostly because like it or not, I’ll be DONE with costumes tonight.  Wow, the freedom… Sigh…  But obviously, I love me some Halloween!!  And with the kids?!  Forget about it.  It’s just so. fun.

This year my boys will all be the fabulous men in Guardians of the Galaxy.  You saw the movie, right?!  We are all huge fans up in here.

Reign, my oldest is going to be Rocket, the smart ass genius – wonder why he picked that character?!?  But omg, Rocket is a freakin’ raccoon.

Now how to turn my very human son into Rocket?

Make a Mask!  Of course!!

And you can do this too – it’s actually super easy!

Grab a paper towel, some foil, flour and water for the base.  For the details I used a glue gun to attach the fur.  Friends, I made the mask Tuesday, let it dry overnight and then yesterday I finished it up.  All in all, it was about an hr project.  Total!

Take your foil and place it over the face, pushing in (gently) around the eyes, temples and nose to make an impression.

Make a quick mixture of flour and water and cut your 1 paper towel into strips.

Completely saturate the strips, wiping off excess, and place them over the foil impression. Easy, huh?

Let it dry.  I actually left mine for a full day almost, but that was mostly because I didn’t have time to get to it sooner.  Peel the foil off the mask… DON’T peel the mask off the foil. There’s a difference – you’ll see.

Trim it up!  Here you can see that I started on the eyes.

You have a mask!!  At this point, it’s really up to you to figure out where to go next.  Paint, glitter, blood or hey, how about some fur?

Once you’ve got it all filled in and glued, hand sew an elastic band to the back.

And that’s it!!  It will fit sooooo nicely because hello! it was made for that little, perfect face – Yours!

And here’s a quick pict that I snapped while Reign got dressed this morning.  I’ve still got a bit of trimming to do, (especially at the forehead) but I think it turned out pretty good!  And I’ve got to comb those eyebrows!!
