Merry Christmas!

And happy day off!  Whoo-hoo!

Yesterday I was at the office delivering goodies and hugs, saying Happy Holidays… you know, spreading my cheer with people I love.  My friend says, You can say Merry Christmas, we won’t be offended!!  And I thought, you know what, you’re right!  I celebrate Christmas.  It’s pretty cool.  Why not just say, Merry Christmas?  It’s not like it’s a secret or anything.

So ya, that just happened.  And even if you don’t celebrate the same way/thing I do, it’s all good.  When it’s Hanukkah, please (OH PLEASE!) wish me a Happy Hanukkah. Kwanza?!  Yes!  I love parties, gifts, celebrating of ANY and ALL kinds.  I will even toast to your un-birthday and bring a gift to your dogs wedding.  It’s what brings joy and I’m all about that.

How about some photos?  I literally just snapped these a few minutes ago.

In case you are scratching your head, yes my kids are watching Ninja Turtles while I type this.  It’s going down. right. now.

Cards are still being put up and the dining table is pretty bare, but at least the music is loud and stuff is smelling gooooood.

So with that I’ll leave you.  Well, after a bit of Stevie Wonder’s Someday…

Someday at Christmas men won’t be boys
Playing with bombs like kids play with toys
One warm December our hearts will see
A world where men are free

Someday at Christmas there’ll be no wars
When we have learned what Christmas is for
When we have found what life’s really worth
There’ll be peace on earth

Someday all our dreams will come to be
Someday in a world where men are free
Maybe not in time for you and me
But someday at Christmastime

Someday at Christmas we’ll see a Man
No hungry children, no empty hand
One happy morning people will share
Our world where people care

Someday at Christmas there’ll be no tears
All men are equal and no men have fears
One shinning moment my heart ran away
From our world today

Someday all our dreams will come to be
Someday in a world where men are free
Maybe not in time for you and me
But someday at Christmastime

Someday at Christmas man will not fail
Hate will be gone love will prevail
Someday a new world that we can start
With hope in every heart

(Someday all our dreams will come to be)
(Someday in a world where men are free)
Maybe not in time for you and me
But someday at Christmastime
Someday at Christmastime

Blessings my friends!!  Thank you for enjoying the journey with me.

Foiled Disco Invitations!

You guys, this post is soooo Groovy Baby!!

Remember how I said that one of my bff’s is preggo?  I know, it’s totally all I’ve been yammering about.  Well, guess who is throwing her one totally le chic baby shower?!?!?  Yes!  It’s me!!

And how did I come up with this good-time-guaranteed theme?  It kinda came to me while we were discussing what sign Little Miss was going to be.  Aquarius.  The age of Aquarius?!?!?  Wow, so perfect.  Right?!

The way to really introduce a theme to guests is definitely with the invitation.  They will know if this is going to be a party worth driving 20-30 miles for… I think these definitely give the impression that it’s going to be a fête not to be missed!!

Wanna make some?

Okay, so here’s what you’ll need –

  • Paper (I got the pink and purple from Joann’s and the shimmer and glitter from Michael’s)  Make sure that the paper is not too textured for the foiled areas
  • Then you need foil.  I got mine here
  • Paper cutter (you can do it by hand, but if you’re making a bunch then it’s really a sanity saver)
  • Envelope maker – also makes your life easier
  • Honeycomb tissue balls – The ones I purchased are no longer available, but these are pretty similar
  • Paper punch
  • Laminating machine
  • Adhesive
  • Glitter spray – optional

First off, go and visit Jenny here.  I had seen her feature awhile back and loved the idea!  I just expanded on it… Man, this would be good for the holidays.

The hardest and most important part is to design your invitation.  This took me quite some time, but I’ll give you my templates here… please tweak them for your own use.  I also hand drew in some dots before making copies.

TriciaInvitefront TriciaInviteinside

Did you notice how Jenny said that you HAD to use a certain ink?!  Please make that notation because I had to print parts at home and parts at the office, since I wanted color and the right ink.  I’m so demanding.

Grab those honeycomb balls and spray them with glitter – they are your disco balls.

I used a paper clip to keep them open.  It just adds a little sumthin-sumthin.

Obvs, print out your invites and trim them to size.  Prep EVERYTHING first.  So key, you guys.

Cut your foil in advance too.  It really helps.

With your basics prepped you can set up a work station.  Turn on the laminating machine and while each invite goes through, you can fold envelopes, invitations and glue in your envelope shimmer, which I made by making a template first from an envelope.

Okay, this is important.  Once the foiled piece comes out of the laminating machine – DON’T TOUCH IT.  Let it cool.  Put it to the side.  No touch.  Got it?  It will peel better that way.

Once I had the front and backs attached with adhesive, I used the puncher for pizazz.  I like that word, pizzzaaaaazzzzzzzz, jazz hands!

So, so shiny.  I love this technique!

Then put in the disco ball.  That’s right, put the ball in the crack.  Giggle.

For the stuff that you didn’t plan for, please make at least 10 extra.  I don’t know why but some of my foiled fronts didn’t come out perfectly.  And, AND!!  When I went to seal up the goodies, I had to add some pink duct tape to the back…. I just happened to have some stashed.  I wasn’t happy about the idea (at all) but I really didn’t want the invitations opening up en route and not getting delivered.  That would have been bad.

Does this make you want to boogie down?

Everyone got a unique invitation because of the different colored “disco balls” and varied papered I choose.  It’s kinda fun that way!

So that’s about it!!  Now I’m off to finish up some more planning for the actual event…so much to do, so little time!

And as always,

Last night, Rocket the Raccoon nabbed 1st place for the costume contest at Gracie Barra in Northridge!  Great party and great fun!  (If you’re curious how I made the mask, check it here and for everything else, it’s all kind of a blur!!)

OH!  And if you see a fabulous costume, say something!!  My gosh, last night I saw one of my favorite costumes of all time – literally a scene from the movie Up, complete with the grandpa figure, boy scout and house with balloons (worn by mom)!  It was CRAZY amazing!!  Gotta up my game next year!!  HA!

Let’s Make a Mask!

Yes!  It’s almost Halloween and I for one am super excited!  Mostly because like it or not, I’ll be DONE with costumes tonight.  Wow, the freedom… Sigh…  But obviously, I love me some Halloween!!  And with the kids?!  Forget about it.  It’s just so. fun.

This year my boys will all be the fabulous men in Guardians of the Galaxy.  You saw the movie, right?!  We are all huge fans up in here.

Reign, my oldest is going to be Rocket, the smart ass genius – wonder why he picked that character?!?  But omg, Rocket is a freakin’ raccoon.

Now how to turn my very human son into Rocket?

Make a Mask!  Of course!!

And you can do this too – it’s actually super easy!

Grab a paper towel, some foil, flour and water for the base.  For the details I used a glue gun to attach the fur.  Friends, I made the mask Tuesday, let it dry overnight and then yesterday I finished it up.  All in all, it was about an hr project.  Total!

Take your foil and place it over the face, pushing in (gently) around the eyes, temples and nose to make an impression.

Make a quick mixture of flour and water and cut your 1 paper towel into strips.

Completely saturate the strips, wiping off excess, and place them over the foil impression. Easy, huh?

Let it dry.  I actually left mine for a full day almost, but that was mostly because I didn’t have time to get to it sooner.  Peel the foil off the mask… DON’T peel the mask off the foil. There’s a difference – you’ll see.

Trim it up!  Here you can see that I started on the eyes.

You have a mask!!  At this point, it’s really up to you to figure out where to go next.  Paint, glitter, blood or hey, how about some fur?

Once you’ve got it all filled in and glued, hand sew an elastic band to the back.

And that’s it!!  It will fit sooooo nicely because hello! it was made for that little, perfect face – Yours!

And here’s a quick pict that I snapped while Reign got dressed this morning.  I’ve still got a bit of trimming to do, (especially at the forehead) but I think it turned out pretty good!  And I’ve got to comb those eyebrows!!

Have you got anything special planned this Saturday??

I’ll be sure to show you some pictures of the full enchilada later!

It’s not to late to make something unique!  Get to it!

It’s my birthday and…

So, last week was my birthday and it was kinda a big one.

I’m not old per se, but I’m not exactly young either.  I’m thinking that’s why this number feels a bit different than say 33 or 34… not a bad different, just well, different.  Like I should be doing those things I said I would do for my health.  My gosh, that sounds like something an old person would say!!

With that in mind I decided that I would VOW to do two things every morning.

1.  First thing, drink a tall glass of water.  I wake up thirsty and then what do I do?  Drink coffee – no bueno.

2.  Wear a “real” sunscreen everyday.  (Apparently, products with SPF aren’t good enough?!?!  Then why do they make the bloody stuff?!?!)

And so far, so good!!

To treat myself, I also went out and bought what any 35 year old should have….a kick ass skin serum.

Caudalie Elixir  Now, I don’t know if this works (it’s only been a week) but omg, I lllooovveee the smell and the feel of it.  Curious what a dry oil feels like?  It really is a dry-oil.  I mean, it’s pretty amazing.

And wondering what my fabulous boys got for me?  Well, they nailed it.  I’m SO EXCITED!

I can’t wait to curl up in here, watch the boys swim and read a book.  Like a REAL book.  Like I used to.  And relax.  (My blood pressure just went down dreaming about it!)

It’s on back order, but I will share details as soon as it’s in my powerful grip.

And even though I got some fab-u stuff, yes, there were a few items still on my bday wish list.  Maybe next year?  Or maybe one of you will snag up one of these?

White S Chair; I think these would work well at my breakfast table now that we don’t have enough chairs for the whole crew, Bare Minerals; a glowing complexion?  Yes, please, GM Yoga Meltdown; one of my mom GF’s says this video is amazing.  I should just buy the damn thing right now for $8!!, Gaetano Petite Chandelier; perfect for my closet!, Paint brushes; Can’t get enough of these!, Router; would really round out my tool arsenal,  Mobile; SO curious about this – what do you think?, Cricut machine; Then I could make you some decals, wouldn’t that be cool?, Vitamix; because I could make one big batch for all the boys instead of 2-3.

Anything on your list right now??

Happy Creating (and treating yourself)!!  Jessica
