Fun at the Flea Market – January 2014

Welcome back everyone!

Ready to see all the fun goodies I spied this month?  I know that you can’t actually buy any of these, but at least you can get an idea of what’s out there in the flea market world and how much things are going for.

Maybe there is a treasure or two you think I passed up?  I’d love to hear which one you would have pulled the trigger on!

$250 for this gorgeous chinoiserie fireplace screen.

$85 for these industrial letters that are 3 1/5 feet high. Would be cool next to a fireplace or in an office.

$40 (yes that's right!!) for an army inspired, but totally new, foldable bed. I was thinking this would be utterly cool in a teens room.
$40 (yes that’s right!!) for an army inspired, but totally new, foldable bed. I was thinking this would be utterly epic and functional in a teens room; at the foot of the bed, against a wall as a “sofa” or stored under the bed for friends!
$125 for this wood, glass and chrome coffee table. My pic sucks because this thing is really beautiful!

$30 for two 10 inch long brass hippos. Could you resist? I couldn't!! They make me smile.

$80 for this super rad "lab" looking table. I'm sore about this one, hommies. I thought it'd be a great occasional table by the sofa since it's all kinds of adjustable.

$150 each, which is way high in my opinion but they are kinda cool in that faux concrete finish. Hey, it's something different!

$600 for the pair, a really good deal for these lefty nightstands. The two tone wood is unique and the hardware really stunning. In the picture they look like they need work, but nope, they're good to go after a little polishing.

$2 bucks a piece for these lucite numbers roughly 5" tall... I was really, really thinking about these to grace the front on my house. If only I could pick a color already!

Mama grabbed this treasure for $40! I originally thought it would be a great kids table with a new top, but once I put it in the living room I don't think I can move her out. It's solid wood, heavy, and almost brand new, although the seller had it in her own house for over 25 years! Wouldn't a little paint only on the inside, take it over the edge?!?

What do you think?  A lot of fun pieces to check out and drool over.  I always give you the starting price the vendor gives me because in most cases I’m not actually going to buy them so I don’t get to the negotiation part.  When the piece does come home with me, then yes, you get the nitty gritty details.  So, figure if you are out and about and see something similar, don’t forget to make a reasonable offer.  And don’t forget your cash!!

Treasures abound!!

1 Hour 3 Thrift Stores

Hi There!

How was everyone’s Thanksgiving?!  I think I’m still stuffed from the bounty – I love it!  And we spent the next few days reveling in family time and staying away from the mall action.  I did partake in some on-line shopping, but ‘cummon, it’s so easy!  I had to!  And what did I purchase?!  A beauteous new miter saw.  Yay, for muah!  My first project, which of course I will share, is going to be a vent cover.  Fancy, I know.

I have been wanting to do the 1 Hour thrifting challenge for soooo long.  Monday morning I finally got my chance!  No one would miss me for such a short while… I decided to tackle the three closest thrift shops to my house.  Here’s what I found:

Salvation Army, Stop Numero Uno and where I spent a good 1/2 hour – whoops!

Goodwill, and Final Call!!  Still have 10 minutes on the clock!!

So, yeah I struck out pretty bad at the last stop even though I was feeling good about it.  Alas, thrift store hunting is all about the chase and I would say that 9 times out of 10 I end up with a bag full of nothing!  I did however decide last minute to get the 6 little pots.  I love the look of little succulents and I think they’d look so cute in these.  I’d never put any flowers or water in my collectible pieces, so my small investment might just pay off in a cute holiday vignette.  We will see!

What do you like best?  Anything?

I’m still thinking about that wicker settee for the kids room, but they’re boys and will probably think it’s lame.  Boo.

Please share some of your latest treasures!  I’d love to see!!

Happy Creating!  Jessica

September Flea Market Finds

Hi Everyone!

You all know how much I LOVE me a flea market!  And we finally got to make it to the Rose Bowl, after a few months of scheduling conflicts/bdays/and such.  I was happier than a fat boy eatin’ cake!!  So happy in fact, that the extreme heat almost didn’t bother me… almost.

But now I’m excited to show you what I scored.  Lots of new projects on my to-do list!

Here are the pieces I dug, but didn’t make the cut…

Love the detail on the chairs and the rounded back.  They just need a little paint, but I would make the seats more cushy too with extra padding and possibly a chinoiserie fabric.
