A New Guest Bed … Or Not?

Hello there my people!

I’m going to be honest and tell  you that I’ve been sitting on this post for about a week.  Ya see, over the holiday weekend our guest bed broke.  All the boys were jumping on it, having a good ol’ time (and no, they’re NOT allowed to do that), when bang, the mattress hit the floor.  This bed that we have has always given us a few issues and I, my husband and father-in-law have all repaired it at one time or another.

I was fed up.

I decided, there are a crap load of sales going on and I’m getting a new freaking bed!!  Whoo-hoo!!  Spending hard earned money can be so darn exhilarating!  Ha!

I knew that I needed a queen, neutral in color (grey, perhaps) with a low footboard, or heck, no footboard at all, and pretty sleek around the sides (nothing jutting out taking over precious space).

Here’s what I came up with.  Can you even believe the price of these?!  My gosh.  When did beds become so cheap?!?

Rebecca – AllModern – $419.99

Houchins – Wayfair – $327.99

Molinaro – AllModern – $207.54

Leyton Mid-Century – Target – $353.59

Baxton Studios – Overstock – $461.12

Pelegrino – Joss and Main – $269.99

So, I did it!  I ordered one without searching any further… I looked for one day, that was it!  Can you guess which one?

Yes, the one with storage!!  I thought that would be so much better than bins of comic books under the bed (the way it is now).  I’ve mentioned my husband’s collecting habit, right?  We’re a match made in hoarding heaven!  Har har.

I was getting that bed in less than a week.  OMG.

Anyhoo, my in-laws came to visit the next day and I asked if they could help me get the old sucker out.  While I was running errands, he fixed it.  He literally FIXED it.  Again.  AGAIN!!  And wouldn’t you know it, it doesn’t look bad.  Arrrrrrrrr!!

I figured that I’d try to cancel the order and let fate decide.  Well, Wayfair has excellent customer service and cancelled it an hr or two later.  Thanks Wayfair.  (insert sarcasm)  And I wasn’t even going to tell you this whole long, boring saga which resulted in nothingness, except for the fact that I did write up a post on the beds before I knew my shopping would be DOA.  (Friends fans anyone?!)

Maybe you’re looking for a great new bed and one of these calls to you.  Maybe I have helped someone in need today.

Deciding on a Mirror

Me and my first world problems.  I swear, you guys.  No really, I’m swearing.  I did my best to have a great plan (laid out here) and sadly, I’ve had nothing but stumbles and delays.  Sigh.

Like I said, don’t feel sorry for me… I’m decorating a new bathroom, pooooooorrrr little ol me.

You must be thinking, gf, you still don’t have a freaking mirror in that bathroom.  And the answer to that is, “No, no I don’t.”  I really wanted to get the drawers in so that I could see what everything would look like with the wood grain of the vanity and brass of the lights and faucet.  Needless to say, I’ve had my fun with the drawers – more on that to come later.  (I’m so much fun, aren’t I?!  Insert You – “YAY!  She’s going to talk about the drawers!!  Whoooo!!  I cannot wait!!”)

Anyhoo.

I totally thought that in my stash of mirrors I’d find the perfect candidate.  I mean, cummon, this chick has a plethora of options.  Surely one would work.  Well…. let’s see what you think.  Here are the 4 that I actually photographed.

This one above I think is the only option I would consider.  I feel like the shape is interesting and the scale works, though hung higher, obviously.  However, there are some problems here… the frame needs some tlc and the mirror itself should either be more antiqued or changed out for a new one since there are 3-4 spots on it.  Changing out the mirror could cost a pretty penny with those curves.  Hmmm…..

This round mirror was originally the mirror I thought I would go with.  I do like it… I think…. I just don’t love it, you know?  Maybe it’s because the frame is so narrow?

Ahhhh!  That red tone is hurting my eyes!!

I really hate this one.  I thought maybe I could just paint it or give a tortoise shell treatment (I say this as if I’m Picasso or something), but no, no, NO.  Yuck.

Basically unless you all tell me how much you love option 1 or 2, then I need to get out there and hunt for another mirror.  I need to be real careful since I don’t want to put unnecessary holes into that fabulous wallpaper.  Wink.  At least there’s something I like!  HA!

Randomly I spotted these… okay, not randomly at. all.  I was sitting here, trying not to yell “Stop jumping on the sofa” for the millionth time and decided to look at mirrors.  Sanity check.  Do not slap children.  Check.  Do not curse at children.  Check, check.

Breathe in, breathe out.  I’m still good.

Oh ya.  Mirrors.

This has all the makings of something I could pick.  Might just put that in the cart…

Hot damn, this one is pretty amazing!!  A sun in the trees!  Uh oh wallet.

Just measured cause I figured, F it, and it DOESN’T FIT!!  Whaaaaa-mublance.  I’m so annoyed, now.  Kids are being so loud and the perfect mirror won’t work.  Why world?!?!

Wait.  What about this one?

Another neat option…Me and my fickle heart.

Nawwwww.  I’m still mad about the first round mirror.  I highly doubt the brass colors would work together but ssstttiiiillllll!

What am I going to do?!?!?!?

Barristers Bookcase

Hi there!

Gah! Where is the time going? I can’t believe we’re already well into January and I’m just finishing up storing all the holiday stuff. I’m not sure what’s worse… hauling it all down or putting it all back? It sucks! And every year, I’m left wondering why we all do this. Well, that’s until December rolls around and I’m back at it again!! We really are a bunch of weirdos.

Of course, today I’m not even thinking about any of this. I’m thinking about barristers bookcases – which I LOVE!! Aren’t they so cool?! Very hip in the nerdiest of ways.

Or am I describing myself?

It’s funny, for years I’ve been scouring high and low to get my hands on one of them for my husband’s office. Yeah, I would spot one once in a blue moon only to find out it was $600 or $800 or $1,000 bucks. And even with that price tag, I was definitely tempted. I mean, wouldn’t his baseball card collection look SO, SO much better in one, than all over the freaking place?, I would rationalize to myself. Well, NO MORE!! I finally found one and now it’s in our home, happily filled with pictures of dudes. Ha. But then the most miraculous of things happened.

I found another one.

You guys?! Isn’t that insane? How did TWO of these creatures just fall into my lap? Right into my tight, little hoarding hands.

I literally just sent it on over to Chairish, so it’s not even listed with them yet. It’s freaking amazing!!

I was tempted to keep both, I’m not going to lie. But then I thought perhaps one of you is looking for one too!! And see all the fun ways you can style it out??

I once saw one filled with bugs and butterflies and old books – It was incredible. Of course, now that I went searching for it, I couldn’t find the photo. This one above, crammed to the brim with books is pretty spectacular though.

I think the one on the kitchen counter is probably my favorite! That’s just so creative. Second? I dunno, that shoe collection is off the chains.

If you happen to be interested in the one I’ve got listed, please let me know! I will definitely give y’all a better deal, wink wink!! And if you already have one, then yay, we are bookcase twins!!
