Tweenie Bedroom – Layout of the Land

Let us continue the saga, which is pulling together a tween bedroom. Start here to catch up.

Isn’t it strange that such a cute little thing (my 10 year old cousin) could have so many opinions and yet none at all?!?

I know parent’s of 10 years olds around the globe are shaking their heads. I mean, my gosh, what was she talking about 90% of the time?? Seriously, I’m a girl and I had zero idea.

In the end (after lots of head scratching from me) I gathered that what she wanted was a mix of bohemian and diva. That ~~I think~~ I can do. And, hold the phone!! Did we just kind of make a decision?!? Well, sorta. She still picked 2 instead of 1, but hey, who’s counting?

Diamond Tufted Bed

A side table and a dresser, a chandelier (which looks very similar to the one shown) and the shade of lavender on the walls.

The plans? Well, I got those too… of course, things may change once stuff is in the room, but for now this is what I’m envisioning. It may not be my favorite having the bed agains the wall, but then she can actually have a desk and dresser fit. Seems worth the trade off!

The Faucet Died!

Don’t you hate it when you have something on your to-do list and then all of a sudden you are forced to deal with it?!?

Yes, I HATE that.

And that’s exactly what happened with my kitchen faucet.

We had been having some issues with it and so I knew that when I found the perfect replacement, I would pull the trigger… no rush, no wild, crazy goose hunts. Nope, the kitchen fairies had other plans for me. The faucet literally died. It started spewing water everywhere, leaking from the top and the bottom, just your general kitchen nightmare. Ha!

What I had was a Kraus with stellar reviews.

One should not believe all stellar reviews. Lesson learned. This faucet gave us grief after about a month… it is pretty grand looking, but is that worth the drama?!

The answer my divas, is no. No, it’s not. No matter how cool it may seem to be, it’s not worth it. Later your prized faucet will spew water, get yellow and just make you mad.

Okay, enough of that. I pulled up my big girl pants and set out to drop some dough on a new faucet.

Here were the top contenders….

Brizo with Touch, from Fergusons

And this more modern Brizo with Touch, also from Ferguson’s

Which looked an awful lot like the Delta Touch, Pacific Sales…

All of these were clocking in at about $380-475, which was in-line with what I was looking to spend. Most of them had touch, except the Moen and I was racking my brain as to whether the touch option really made sense.

Did you know that you have to leave the handle open to even use the touch feature?????? Doesn’t that soooo change the coolness level??

In the end, while buying enormous volumes of food (for one week) at Costco, I came across this Hansgrohe.

Normally these faucets are in the $700-800 range, so finding one with such a great price tag was a score. No touch, but again did we really need/want that??

Two things I didn’t love; the unique handle and the button for the spray being in the front of the faucet (like why didn’t they put it in the back?!?!).

What I did love; Girl is sturdy! Clean lines, quality maker, and it was the look I was going for.

Sold!

After about 2 weeks, I’m happy to report that I’m very pleased with my new faucet!! And I’m even more thrilled that I got for 1/2 of what I was planning on spending. Like when does that happen?!?

Phew! Crisis averted.

Tweenie Bedroom

You guys! My dreams are finally coming true!!

My cousin, who is 10 years old asked yours truly to (drum roll please) HELP HER DECORATE HER NEW BEDROOM!!!!!! Imagine me jumping up and down, squealing like a little girl – true story – and totally not doing my cool factor any favors.

3 pregnancies, 4 boys later and finally a room to decorate that doesn’t involve masses of testosterone. Can I get a whoot-whoot?! And a hallelujah?!? Please!

And as if it couldn’t get any better, here she is in all her cuteness… maybe too much cuteness, if you ask her dads. In this particular picture she has confiscated my shoes and (damn it) if she doesn’t wear them better than I do. Doh!

Am I not the luckiest?!

Savannah, is a special tweenie who needs a special space to call all her own. I literally can’t wait to get to swiping… swiping that credit card, that is!!

The direction she gave me was this… Purple walls, black accents and she loves XOXO. I have lots of ideas, but first off, I want to get an idea of where my girl sees the space going. Is she more bohemian, glam, romantic or sophisticated? All with a cool tween twist of course!
