Make your own Satchels!

Hi All!  Happy long weekend to you!

And if you are celebrating Easter tomorrow, then this project might be right up your alley for a little Saturday sew project!

Oh, and check this hunk out!  Just chillin’ at Target…

FullSizeRender-2So, back to satchels!

Baskets are sooooo 2014.  Am I right?!  And (don’t hate the sexist in me) they’re a bit girlie….oh, and they’re not all that fabulous at holding a bunch of eggs.

Enter the boy friendly, versatile, EASY TO MAKE bag that you can literally whip up with fabric scraps.

My measurements worked well for my boys, ages 3-5.

Let’s get to cutting!

4 rectangles 8.5″ x 10″ (2 for the lining inside, so those can be boring scraps)

2 rectangles (or triangle shaped) pieces for the flap roughly 5.5″ x 8.5″

A length of leather/vinyl/thick fabric for your strap 2.5″ x 58″ (I did this in 2 pieces and stitched em together)

FullSizeRender-3Just follow the picts!  And sew along the arrows!

This is what you’ll end up with

Stack the two, wrong sides out…

Flip it inside out and press the seams.  Then, sew up the front

Flip it, so the good parts are showing, and press that seam too.

Here’s is what you’ll have now

Lastly, attach the strap!  Sew the inside fabric to the ugly side of your strap… all the way around the bag, but not the flap.

Finish off the strap, by folding it over where the seam is already formed and stitch the sides.  This will make it nice and pretty.  See?

Done and DONE!

Now I just need some action shots!

Enjoy!!

Glass Panels!

Hi!

Wanna come over and see my new doors?!

Actually, they’re not entirely new, but oh my gosh, they feel sooooo different!!

Lookie… Before

IMG_0199And AFTER!!

IMG_0237 FullSizeRender IMG_0238You can see how they simply removed the door trim and changed out the damaged glass.

FullSizeRender-2There is a bit of patching and painting that needs to be done but What. A. Difference.

Maybe it doesn’t seem like much in the photos, but the light in the entry has completely changed.  It’s so much brighter.  And the doors look more modern now.

Although, I have to confess that a bit of me was sad to see the tulips go.  If they weren’t cracked then I know I would have kept them… I just keep imagining that the kids who grew up here (their parents built the home)  will come over and be devastated that everything has changed – even their beloved tulips…which their grandmother had picked out…and now she’s dead…and then they would hate me and spit on the lawn…

It could happen.

And now that I’ve written down the words, it probably will happen.  FML.

Sooooo, back to the doors.  If you’re interested in having something like this done and you’re in the LA area definitely call Flash Glass!  They did a perfect job – and I NEVER say that.  They made the panels in 2 weeks and installed them in 30 minutes.

I got to see the panel during production to give a thumbs up!

Now I can check that off the todo list!!

The spitters can’t take that one away from me!  Happy Creating, Jessica

Stage 1 of the TRIPLE BUNK BED!!

Hi y’all.

It’s me up in here… just making some dreams come true.  Just.

As if!  Right?!?

But seriously, if I were a little boy with a slew of brothers, what would I dream of??  No, not more Lego’s as the eldest just volunteered.  A playhouse/bunk bed for way too much fun and trouble!

And since I live for this crap, Let’s Do It!!

First things first was to prep the room for the awesomeness.  And a fugly air-conditioning unit was certainly not in the picture.

Here’s a photo of where I’m planning to put the beds, with the hole patched up.  Silly me forgot to get a before, but trust that it was not pretty.  For $150 bucks it was gone and this delightful hole was left in it’s place.

IMG_0189Of course, once you get to patching, better make it count… my one white spot turned to a gazillion white spots.

IMG_0204The problem with all this patching, is that I did this bamboo treatment over 5 years ago.

Oy vey.

Needless to say it took FOREVER to match it all up.  But very worth it (and necessary), if I do say so myself!

IMG_0236 IMG_0245It’s pretty tough to tell that there was ever anything there at all!!

Phew.  Pat on the back.  A little juice spilled for the homies.

Now for my favorite part!!  Inspiration, of course!!  Feast your eyes on these beauties I stumbled across…

I know that a bunch of these are for outdoors, but I just loved “the vibe,” you know.  Right now, I’m in the planning stage… formulating some ideas of what will work for the space and how to cram 3 twin beds into a corner.  (Without too much temptation for these wild, testosterone fueled beasts to hurt themselves.)

So what am I thinking… well, something kinda like this:

renderingIt’s rough and it ain’t all that pretty, but at least you can be in my head.

What do you think??

I always, ALWAYS wanted a playhouse and my gosh, I think I would have just died for something like this.

Ahhhh, living through our kids.  Same ol story, new day!

Some of you might be thinking, “Why inside the house??  Get those boys outside!”  And to that I will say, they have a swing set/playhouse thing already so it didn’t make much sense… also, they are addicted to legos right now, and I need a space I can commit them to and keep Arrow out.

We’ll see how that goes.  At least in my mind it’s all looking pretty exciting!!
